Israeli Soldier Killed in Southern Lebanon as Fighting Intensifies

The Israeli military announced early Sunday that one of its soldiers was killed during combat operations in southern Lebanon.
Sergeant Moshe Yitzchak Hacohen Katz, 22, from New Haven, Connecticut, serving with the 890th Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade, fell in action in southern Lebanon, according to an official statement.
This brings the total number of Israeli soldiers killed in ground fighting in southern Lebanon to five since Hezbollah began its rocket campaign against Israel on March 2, launched in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s supreme leader.
Continued Israeli Operations
Israeli forces maintained pressure on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon. On Saturday, an Israeli airstrike killed three Lebanese journalists, including prominent Al-Manar TV correspondent Ali Shoeib, who had covered Israeli operations in Lebanon for decades.
The Israeli military accused Shoeib of operating as a Hezbollah intelligence operative “under the guise of a journalist.” Lebanese officials, including President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, strongly condemned the killings as war crimes.
In a separate incident on Saturday, Israeli raids in southern Lebanon killed nine paramedics, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
