How to Read the Map
Using the Military Flight Tracker
1
Click any aircraft on the map to see its callsign, altitude, speed, heading and aircraft type in the panel on the left.2
Filter by type using the filter options — look for surveillance aircraft like E-3 Sentries, RC-135s and P-8 Poseidons which indicate active intelligence gathering operations.3
Watch flight patterns — circular patterns often indicate ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) operations. Straight high-altitude tracks indicate bombers or tankers.4
Callsign clues — USAF callsigns like HAVOC, BONE (B-1 Bomber), MYTEE (KC-135 tanker) and JAKE (surveillance) indicate mission type. NATO uses standardised callsigns.5
Squawk codes — 7700 means emergency, 7600 means radio failure, 7500 means hijack. Military aircraft squawking 7777 are operating under NORAD identification.Key Aircraft to Watch
Surveillance & ISR RC-135 · E-3 Sentry · P-8 Poseidon · U-2 These aircraft are intelligence gold. When spotted near conflict zones they indicate active military intelligence gathering operations.
Strategic Bombers B-52 · B-1B Lancer · Tu-95 · Tu-160 Strategic bomber movements are major signals. B-52 deployments to Diego Garcia or Guam indicate escalating US military posture.
Air Refuelling Tankers KC-135 · KC-46 · A330 MRTT · IL-78 Tankers enable extended range operations. Large formations of tankers indicate imminent strike operations or major exercises.
Command & Control E-4B Nightwatch · E-6 Mercury · E-8 J-STARS E-4B Nightwatch is the US nuclear doomsday plane. Any sighting is significant. E-6 Mercury communicates with nuclear submarines.
Drones & UAVs RQ-4 Global Hawk · MQ-9 Reaper · RQ-180 High-altitude drones often broadcast ADS-B. Global Hawk spotted near conflict zones is a strong indicator of active surveillance operations.
Transport & Logistics C-17 · C-5 Galaxy · AN-124 · C-130 Surge in military transport flights to a region indicates troop deployments, equipment movements or humanitarian operations beginning.
▶ Data Source Live flight data powered by ADSBexchange.com — the world's largest unfiltered ADS-B flight tracking network. Unlike commercial trackers, ADSBexchange does not remove military, government or sensitive aircraft from its feed at the request of operators. All data is sourced from a global network of volunteer ADS-B receivers.
